What criteria do I have to meet to apply for aupair jobs?

First of all you will have to be aged between 17 and 27 years, single, without any dependants and to be able to communicate in English (families accept au pairs with a basic level of spoken and written English).
Having a clean criminal record is also a must, you will be required to provide references and a medical certificate which shows that you are healthy and fit to help with light housework.

Am I suitable to be an au pair?

You should think about a few things that will help you decide whether you will enjoy being an au pair.
If you like being around children and you wouldn’t mind providing au pair care, if you have a friendly personality and are used to helping with light housework or if you have a passion for English language and you would like to learn more about British culture then you are definitely the right person for an au pair placement!
You should also take into consideration that you will be away from home for a period of time and think if you would be fine with it.

How will I be welcomed by the family?

The host family will be happy to welcome you in their home, they will provide you with your own room, food and they will share their amenities with you as well as the household responsibilities.
You will be treated as part of the family and you should feel like an older brother/sister to the family’s children.

What will I be expected to do?

The family will expect of you to help with childcare, light housework such as dusting, vacuuming, ironing, cleaning and tidying up, as well as being available for 2 evenings of babysitting every week.

How much will my weekly allowance be?

Depending on how many hours you will be required to work every week, the average weekly allowances are as follows:
  • a normal au pair who works for 25h/week and baby sits 2 evenings a week would get paid between £60 and £75
  • an au pair+ who works for 35h/week and baby sits 2 evenings a week would be paid between £80 and £120
Any additional hours should be paid at a rate of £3.50 per hour.

Can I study in the UK?

You are free to study in the UK if you wish to do so but you would have to pay for your own studies, sometimes families are happy to contribute towards English language classes.

Will I be expected to drive?

Some families require an au pair with driving experience so you can take the children to school and other activities but this is not a must. Even if you have a driving license but you are not confident enough to drive in the UK you won’t be obliged to do so.

How much holiday will I have?

Most families will agree to give you 1 week paid holiday after every 6 months you spend with them, others will give you 2 weeks paid holiday for every 6 months worked or you could even have all school holidays off. Please discuss in good time with the family if you wish to go home on your holiday as they will be able to help with travel arrangements. We can also assist you if you need any help, please feel free to contact us.

Who pays for my travel expenses?

Once you have accepted an offer from a family in the UK you will be expected to pay for your own travel expenses and either a member of the family or a representative from the agency will meet you at the airport/station.

Will I be charged for any services?

Unlike many other au pair agencies we do not charge any fees for registration and you won’t be required to pay for anything else other than your own travel expences.

What do I need to do next?

If you have decided that you would like to become an au pair in the UK then please fill in the free registration form for au pairs and we will get back to you as soon as possible with details of the families that are interested in your profile.

Am I eligible to be an au pair in the UK?

European citizens are free to take au pair placements and do not require any further documents other than a valid passport to travel.
Romanian and Bulgarian nationals are required to apply for an Accession Worker Card and we will provide full guidance and support to make sure that the application is successful.

What if I have any problems?

If any issues arise while you are staying with the family, we recommend that in the first instance you discuss this with them and work together to resolve all problems.
We will always be available to give you advice and should you wish to leave the family we will make every effort to find you another placement as soon as possible.
Please feel free to contact us at all times as we are here to help you, keep you safe and make sure you will have a pleasant experience in the UK.

Final note
